Dated 10 September 2026. If you started Class 11 this year, your NEET is the one in May 2027, 234 days away, and you are taking it from Class 12 with a syllabus that is half Class 11 material you are studying right now. That is the whole case for starting today: the Class 11 half of NEET is not revision for you, it is this year's schoolwork, and doing it once properly is worth more than doing it twice badly in a dropper year.
This page is about the Class 11 year specifically: which of its chapters the paper actually asks, how much of the exam that is, and how to run school and NEET as one thing rather than two.
How much of NEET is Class 11
Roughly half the paper, by chapter count and by questions. But the weight inside that half is very uneven. Across the eight most recent NEET papers (2023 to 2026), measured from 4,858 tagged questions, these are the Class 11 chapters that carry the most, in questions per paper:
Physics (Class 11). Units & Measurements 2.8 (and rising), Laws of Motion 2.1, Gravitation 1.9, Work, Energy & Power 1.9 (rising), then Motion in a Plane, Thermodynamics, Oscillations and System of Particles at one to one and a half each. Units & Measurements is the surprise: the chapter every student treats as housekeeping now asks nearly three questions a paper.
Chemistry (Class 11). Chemical Bonding 2.9, Equilibrium 2.6, Hydrocarbons 2.5, Organic Chemistry: Basic Principles 2.5 (rising), Chemical Thermodynamics 2.1 (rising), Structure of Atom 2.0. Six Class 11 chapters at two or more questions each is a third of the Chemistry paper, and Bonding and Basic Principles are the foundation every Class 12 organic chapter stands on.
Botany (Class 11). Cell: The Unit of Life 4.0, Morphology of Flowering Plants 3.3, Photosynthesis 3.3 (rising fast), Cell Cycle 3.1, Plant Growth 2.6 (rising), Anatomy 2.5. The Cell chapter alone is four questions a paper.
Zoology (Class 11). Biomolecules 5.0, up from under three over the long run and the biggest mover in the entire exam; Animal Kingdom 3.6; Structural Organisation in Animals 3.5 (rising); Chemical Coordination 2.3; Body Fluids 2.0; Locomotion 1.9.
Put together, the Class 11 chapters above are worth about 60 questions a paper, 240 marks, and you are studying them this year with a teacher, for school marks, with time. The full table across both classes is in NEET 2027 chapter-wise weightage.
Running school and NEET as one thing
The mistake most two-year students make in the first six months is to treat NEET as a second syllabus, studied after school from different books. It is the same syllabus. NEET is NCERT, and the Class 11 NCERT is what your school is teaching.
Study each chapter once, to NEET depth, when school reaches it. School depth and NEET depth differ in one way only: NEET asks the question as a 60-second multiple choice, so after the chapter is understood, the chapter needs 30 to 40 timed NEET questions, on a screen. That is the extra. It is not a second reading from a second book.
Keep the mistake diary from the first chapter. Every wrong answer with its reason. A Class 11 student who starts this in September 2026 reaches May 2027 with the longest, most useful diary in the exam hall.
Do the timed questions on a screen. NEET 2027 is a computer-based test; NTA announced the mode on 15 May 2026 and began identifying centres in September 2026. The habit of reading a question on a screen with a palette should be formed now, not in April.
Run weightage order inside the school order. School reaches chapters in NCERT sequence. You cannot change that, but you can change how much you invest: when school reaches Units & Measurements, that is a chapter worth three questions a paper, and it gets the full treatment; when it reaches a chapter that asks half a question, understanding is enough.
The Class 11 batch
"NEET 2027 class 11 batch" is one of the most-searched phrases in this space, and the batches, online and offline, sell a two-year timetable. What a batch does for a Class 11 student is real: it teaches the chapter at NEET depth the first time, it sets a pace, and it sits you with a cohort. What it does not do is know which of your answers were wrong for which reason, or bring a mistake back before you forget it. Those are the diary and the follow-up, and they are yours to run whether or not you are in a batch.
If you are in one of the Physics Wallah Class 11 batches, the Arjuna batch page sets out what the batch provides from its own schedule and where the practice gap is. The same logic holds for every provider; nextAIR is independent of all of them.
What to have finished before Class 12 starts
By the end of Class 11, in March 2027 for you, three things:
- Every Class 11 chapter covered once, to NEET depth, with the top chapters above at two passes.
- A mistake diary with two terms of reasons in it. This is the document that makes your Class 12 year adaptive instead of repetitive.
- Ten full-length mocks, on a screen. Not for the score; Class 12 material is not there yet. For pacing, the palette, and the 2:00 pm start.
Then Class 12 is the other half of the paper, and the month-by-month plan for the final year picks up from there.
What not to do this year
Do not buy a Class 12 book in Class 11 "to get ahead". The Class 11 chapters are worth 240 marks and are in front of you now. Do not join a dropper-style timetable of twelve hours a day; a two-year student who burns out in Class 11 does not reach the exam. And do not read the "NEET 2027 new rules" forwards: the confirmed changes are the computer-based mode and nothing else, and the proposals are sorted from the rumours here.

FAQ
Can a Class 11 student prepare for NEET 2027?
Yes; it is your exam. If you are in Class 11 in 2026 you sit NEET in May 2027 from Class 12, and half the syllabus is the Class 11 material you are studying this year. Doing it once to NEET depth now, as school covers it, is the two-year plan.
Which Class 11 chapters are most important for NEET 2027?
By questions per paper across the eight most recent papers: Biomolecules (5.0), Cell: The Unit of Life (4.0), Animal Kingdom (3.6), Structural Organisation in Animals (3.5), Morphology (3.3), Photosynthesis (3.3), Cell Cycle (3.1), Chemical Bonding (2.9), Units and Measurements (2.8), Equilibrium (2.6), Hydrocarbons (2.5), Organic Chemistry Basic Principles (2.5), Laws of Motion (2.1).
How much of the NEET syllabus is from Class 11?
About half by chapter count and by questions, but unevenly weighted. The Class 11 chapters listed on this page are worth roughly 60 questions a paper, 240 of 720 marks, between them.
Should a Class 11 student join a NEET batch?
If it teaches the chapters at NEET depth the first time and sets a pace you would not keep alone, yes. A batch is not a substitute for a mistake diary with the reason for each error, or for timed practice on a screen; those are yours to run alongside it.
How many hours a day should a Class 11 student study for NEET?
Enough to give each chapter school reaches its NEET treatment, 30 to 40 timed questions and a diary entry, and no more. A two-year student's advantage is time; spending it on a dropper's twelve-hour day gives it away.
Is the NEET 2027 syllabus the same as the Class 11 and 12 NCERT?
Yes, on the 2024 rationalised syllabus that applies to 2027, with specific topics deleted; the deleted list is checked question by question on this site. Everything else is the NCERT you are being taught.
