"NTA NEET syllabus 2027" is the single most searched NEET phrase this week, and most of the pages that answer it paste the 2024 PDF. This one does something the PDF cannot: it tells you which questions in a typical bank are on deleted topics, because we went through ours and marked them.
Here is the method, the list, and the one honest caveat.
Why deleted topics keep appearing
Three reasons, all boring.
- Books lag. Most Class 11 and 12 physics books in circulation were printed before the 2024 rationalisation. A chapter on Current Electricity still ends with the potentiometer because the plates were never changed.
- Question banks are scraped from old papers. A colour-code question from 2019 is a real NEET question. It is also on a topic NTA deleted in 2024. A bank that keeps every past question keeps it.
- Teachers teach what they taught. A transistor lecture that has worked for a decade is not going to be retired without a fight.
We had the same problem. Our bank held 148 questions on deleted concepts, and four of them were on the colour code of carbon resistors alone. On 4 September 2026 we ruled every one of them out of practice, tests and mocks by concept, and set a rule that any new question on those concepts is withheld on arrival. If you see a deleted topic in our practice, that is a bug, and there is a Challenge button on the question.
The list, by what it costs you
The rationalised syllabus removed content rather than chapters. That is why "which chapters are deleted" is the wrong question; the chapters survive, thinner. These are the concepts, grouped by the mistake they cause.
Physics: the whole of the old "devices" tail
- Transistors, all of it: common-emitter and common-base configurations, current gain, voltage gain, input characteristics, doping and sizes of base, emitter and collector.
- The potentiometer: its sensitivity, and the classic experiment to find the internal resistance of a cell with it.
- The colour code of carbon resistors.
- Retentivity in magnetism.
- The cooling curve experiment.
- Optical instruments as a standalone topic.
What stays: semiconductor basics and diodes, Kirchhoff's laws, cells in series and parallel, the Wheatstone bridge and the meter bridge. Current Electricity still averages 2.8 questions a paper; the marks moved inward, to the parts that remain.
Biology: taxonomy's furniture and the animal-kingdom long tail
- Taxonomic aids: herbarium, botanical gardens, museums, zoological parks, keys, couplets and leads, manuals and monographs.
- Animal Kingdom classification detail: the phylum-by-phylum characteristics that filled two pages of every bank, including the named examples such as Adamsia, Ascaris and corals, and the levels-of-organisation framing.
- Reproductive detail that moved out: the hormonal control of male and female reproduction at the level once asked, the phases of the menstrual cycle as a memorised sequence, and named structures such as the isthmus and the endometrium as standalone questions.
- GI-tract hormones as messengers and regulators.
- Vernalisation.
What stays: the principles of classification, the living world's definitions, the reproductive system's structure and function, and the endocrine chapter's main glands and hormones. Molecular Basis of Inheritance, at 5.5 questions a paper, is now the heaviest single chapter in the paper.
Chemistry: few, and inside chapters
Chemistry lost the least. The deletions sit inside chapters rather than removing any, so the chapter list looks unchanged; read the topic lines of the notified syllabus for your chemistry book chapter by chapter rather than trusting the headings.
The one caveat, stated plainly
Four clusters are argued about by good teachers: radioactivity, the Bohr and quantum subset of Structure of Atom, magnetisation of materials, and the cockroach as a model organism. The notified syllabus text is terse enough that reasonable people read it both ways. We have not deleted these from practice. They are marked as contested, they are still served, and the moment NTA's 2027 bulletin settles them we will rule them the same day. If you are choosing what to skip, skip the settled list above first; the contested ones are a small number of questions either way.
What replaced the weight
A deletion does not shorten the paper. Across 2013 to 2026, the chapters whose share rose after 2024 were the ones next to the deleted content: Current Electricity's circuit topics, the endocrine glands, the reproductive system's structure. Which chapters are deleted from the NEET 2027 syllabus?
None outright. The 2024 rationalisation removed topics inside chapters: transistors, the potentiometer, the colour code, the cooling curve, taxonomic aids, animal-kingdom classification detail, some reproductive and GI-hormone detail, vernalisation, and practical-chemistry principles.
Is the NEET 2027 syllabus the same as 2026?
Yes, as far as anything is known. NTA has kept the rationalised 2024 syllabus for 2025 and 2026 and has published nothing that changes it for 2027.
Why does my question bank still have colour-code questions?
Because it was built from past papers, and colour code was asked before 2024. A bank that does not rule its questions by the current syllabus will keep serving them. Ours rules them by concept and withholds them.
Are radioactivity and Bohr's model deleted?
Contested. The notified text can be read either way, and we serve those questions while marking them contested until NTA's 2027 bulletin settles it.
